This month marks 36 years since the life-altering accident suffered by Rick Allen in which he lost his left arm in an auto accident in England. ,,I remember waking up in the hospital and then realizing what had happened to me after the accident.” Allen. ,,I wanted to disappear and stop with drums and the band, but I received letters.” Not only from family and bandmates. No, Allen got letters from people all over the world. ,,The power of the human spirit was amazing. All this encouragement from other people manifested in wanting to succeed. And that’s exactly what I did!” Allen also received a lot of support from his bandmates who stuck by him through his recovery. ,,The guys didn’t push me but gave me time to grow. And I just needed this time to build confidence and develop a whole new style of playing.” Mission accomplished: DEF LEPPARD’s one-armed drummer came out on top of the list!
